scoliosisScoliosis is abnormal curving in the spine that usually begins in childhood. Scoliosis is often detected when there are uneven shoulders, a hump in the back or change in posture.Scoliosis tends to be found more often in females vs. males.

The reason why scoliosis occurs is still unknown, but it has been speculated that it could be the result of a hereditary problem or an adaptation to some trauma. Scoliosis is serious in that it can affect many of the vital organs that sustain life. As a child’s spine develops the scoliosis can worsen. Therefore seeking treatment early is important.

The most common medical treatment approach is the “Wait and See” which tends to result in unsightly braces and sometimes surgery.

Chiropractic techniques have been shown very effective in treating scoliosis. Specific spinal adjustments combined with exercises have proven successful.
